Upcycled Socks – EB Hacks
Jan 29, 2020

It’s Melissa here! We’re at the EB World Congress in London!

Emily and I have had the amazing opportunity to attend the first-ever EB World Congress in London England. We have learned a lot about new research and technology being done to help make life more comfortable for those living with EB. It has also been wonderful to connect with the EB community and to be able to share a few EB Hacks.

You can watch the full video here or down below.

New friends

Katleen and Sakura travelled from Belgium to attend the Congress. EB Simplex runs on Katleen’s husband’s side of the family and 14-year-old Sakura was diagnosed at an early age. After connecting with them, it was clear that they don’t let EB ruin their fun, and they problem-solve whenever needed. They were planning a trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour the next day to make the best of their time in London!

Upcycled socks

This idea came to Kathleen when she was getting rid of old socks and realized the patterns were still nice and bright. Using only scissors you can cut the socks in various ways to act as bandage covers for different body parts!

What you need

  • Old pair of socks
  • Scissors
  • Whatever creams or bandages you regularly use on affected areas

Positive points

  • Can hold bandages in place during the day or while you sleep
  • Can help feet breathe in summer instead of keeping an entire sock on
  • Fun patterns and designs
  • It can be washed and re-used!

We would love to hear from you if you’ve tried upcycled socks and it works for you! Also, feel free to let us know if you have any other EB Hacks!

We used knee pads to protect the skin on my knees. I started wearing them when I was around six months old and learning to crawl, and I continued to wear them growing up in school.
