EB Hacks- Pregnancy & Baths
Feb 26, 2021

Hey Guys, it’s Emily here from MiaThrives!

I am a bath lover and it is a crucial step in taking care of my EB skin. When I first found out I was pregnant I did some research on safe bath practices while pregnant. I will share what has worked well for me but make sure to consult your doctor first!

You can watch the full video here, or down below.

Main Concerns

The number one concern I came across time and time again was making sure the bathwater isn’t too hot. When you are pregnant it is easier to overhead and even faint. Overheating can cause your heart to beat faster and affect your blood flow that can have a negative impact on your baby, especially in the first trimester. This is the main reason many doctors advise you to stay away from hot tubs while pregnant. But there are many ways to make baths at home safe for all stages of pregnancy! I purchased a bath monitor that shows the exact temperature and lights up red if the water gets too warm or green if the water gets too cold. The item I have been using is meant for babies but I figured I could keep using it when the baby comes along! Click here to check out the link on amazon but any thermometer would do the job.

The second area to be cautious around is what you are putting into your bathwater. When you are pregnant you can be extra sensitive to essential oils. I learned this the hard way by putting some peppermint oil in my bathwater and having a painful skin reaction and rash. It seems many practitioners recommended plain Epson salt to soothe skin & muscle pain and that is what I have been using with great successes. You can find Epson salt at almost any pharmacy!

We would love to hear from you if you tried any of these hacks or have any hacks you would like to share with the EB community!

We used knee pads to protect the skin on my knees. I started wearing them when I was around six months old and learning to crawl, and I continued to wear them growing up in school.
