Hey, Guys, it’s Emily here from MiaThrives!
My partner and I recently bought our first home and are so excited for this new adventure. A few new challenges have come up as we are doing some home improvements. There has been trial and error for the tasks and tools I can and can’t do or can figure out another way of doing them.

When I first moved out when I was 18 to attend University I was in a similar situation. Figuring out a few tasks to problem solve that I was used to asking for assistance with. An example of this was I had a difficult time grocery shopping alone, carrying the bags as well as opening, jars, juices, and containers. I would plan to get my shopper done around get-togethers with family and friends. This way they could open everything and close loosely so I could open it with ease when alone.
I find it helpful to also use a rubber band, it helps create friction to open things with less effort. This is a hack that can be used for many forms and severities of EB. My friend Deanna with RDEB also used rubber elastics in a different way. She uses the bands to paint and hold objects.
